The Mayo Clinic School of Medicine has invited interested ASU faculty to serve as research mentors for their medical students. Mayo Clinic medical school curriculum emphasizes the mastery of the principles and practice of biomedical research as part of their students training. To satisfy this requirement, students must carry out mentor-based research during a 12-week block in their third year. Additional research opportunities include 3-week selective blocks during years 1 and 2 and another 3-week block in year 4.
As part of our alliance, students would have access to ASU faculty’s expertise for research experiences in disciplines that complement the clinical research opportunities available at the Mayo Clinic.
Students are expected to gain an understanding of the generation of new biomedical knowledge through participation in hypothesis-driven research and critical evaluation of the existing literature. Further, they are expected to present their research in the form of a poster and/or manuscript in order to complete a medical communication requirement.
